The Earl Spencer is a gastropub that offers so much ‘more than the average London pub’. Regular guests describe them as a ‘a fabulous local that never disappoints’ welcomed by ‘attentive and charming staff’ who are ‘willing to please’ with ‘delicious, scrumptious food’ – added to the fact ‘there is always a personal touch’.

The Brief

The client was using a stand alone online ordering system to accept orders for click and collect, not linked to their EPOS system. It was time-consuming to update the menus regularly on the stand alone system and required double the amount of work to enter the online orders into the onsite system to print in the kitchen. The client’s existing non-integrated solution was expensive as it charged them a high commission rate and transaction fees to process orders & payments online.

The customer needed to improve operations by automating changes to menus across their online ordering platforms and see those changes reflected within their onsite EPOS system immediately. The online sales channel orders also needed to be automatically routed to the kitchen and bar printers without the need to re-enter orders.

The Online Ordering Solution

We demonstrated Gardiff’s online ordering tools, apps and integrations to the client, showing how easy it is to update menus and products in one central place. The client could see how the changes applied to all of their existing on-site and online sales channels immediately. We highlighted the automation of processing incoming orders, sending preparation instructions to the relevant kitchen and bar printers without staff intervention.

Gardiff delivered a branded takeaway app which customers download for free from the Apple and Google Play stores. In addition, the online ordering solution provided a link for customers to order directly from The Earl Spencer’s website.

We can easily upload images of our dishes to entice our customers’ palates and notify them of any allergen advice. The orders take care of themselves by allowing customers to choose a time slot for collection when ordering click and collect or delivery. Our team receives the printed order 30 minutes before we expect a customer to collect or 45 minutes before they want it delivered. The system really takes care of itself and allows us to focus on what we’re good at – Exceptional food and drink served with a smile.

Our customers now have more choice and freedom to choose how and when they want their favourite food and drink provided to them. Offering an online ordering solution is vital. It not only allows us to attract new customers, but allows us to look after our loyal customers and local community.

Since implementing the online ordering solution for click and collect and delivery during the first lockdown once we reopened, we also enabled the option to allow our customers to order to their table via the same solution. There was no additional cost from Gardiff to do this and now our customers have the option to order their food & drink from their phone and get it delivered straight to their table. Customers can simply pick their choices from the menu, select their meal preferences, add any sides, and we bring it over as soon as it’s ready.”
