Walnuts are a family run cafe offering wholesome food that’s simple, convenient and delicious. Using locally sourced ingredients and quality suppliers, their food offering is predominantly British with a Mediterranean streak. They have three locations around South East London and have chosen Gardiff to supply a cafe till system with EPOS solutions for all of their sites.

The Brief

The owners of Walnuts needed a cafe EPOS system that would enable them to efficiently serve customers whilst maintaining control of the business across their sites. To do so, they needed the EPOS system to smoothly process the customer journey and orders through the onsite experience.

In addition, they wanted to start a cafe online ordering service to reach more customers and serve existing ones on the go. They also needed an effective solution for staff to provide table service whilst ensuring orders were sent directly to the kitchen.

Due to the number of staff members across the three sites, it was essential Walnuts had an effective way to organise their team and keep track of shifts.

The system needed to keep on top of stock, update menus for onsite and online orders and have the ability to add offers. As they have three sites, they wanted to be able to have a cloud back office system that could manage all of these from a central location.

Our team know how important the flow of orders from wait staff into the kitchen is, so ensuring speed and accuracy were key decision factors in designing the system. Any orders placed, whether on the till, tablet or online ordering solutions get sent straight to the kitchen. Tickets would be created and automatically printed using a kitchen printer.

We also decided to use RFID cards as a solution to effectively manage staff across the sites. These would allow a fast and secure way to sign into the cafe EPOS system and would allow Walnuts management to easily keep track of their staff.

The Delivery

Working with the team at Walnuts, Gardiff provided initial project management, network implementation, EPOS equipment installation and on-site staff training.

We delivered our EPOS equipment (EPOS software, cafe tills, handheld tablets, kitchen printers, RFID cards and cash drawers) and networked these, connecting them to Wi-fi. Our engineers are qualified to both install the equipment and train staff, providing flexibility for last minute menu changes, system configurations, and addressing final questions from stakeholders.

Our in-house support staff enabled the cloud back office and arranged access for Walnut’s management team.
